How it works

Glycerol, also known as glycerin, is a medication that is useful in dealing with health problems such as constipation and cough. In addition, glycerol has benefits in increasing skin moisture and softness, available in cream preparations. Glycerol works to treat cough by inhibiting cough stimuli in the airways.

 

Indication

2. DL-Menadiol: Deal with health problems such as cough and constipation. 

 

Contraindications

History of hypersensitivity or allergy to glycerol or glycerin (e.g. hives or swelling of the eyelids).

 

Side Effects

Glycerol or glycerin has several side effects such as irregular heart rhythm, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dehydration, burning or pain in the skin that is applied.

 

Preparation

: Available in the form of syrup, suppositories, liquid enema (liquid enters through the anus).

 

Dose

Purpose: to treat cough

  • 5 – 10 mL, 3 -4 times per day

Child dose:

  • Dosage: 3 months to 1 year: 5 mL, 3 -4 times per day
  • Age 1 – 5 years: the dose is the same as the adult dose

Adult dose:

  • 1. For acute pain: 2 – 3 gram suppository (through the anus) once a day as needed
